Buriram United are entering a coaching transition after Mark Jackson left the club on 5 September. ASEAN United’s announcement the following day named Emerson Pereira and Zoran Mijanović as the interim leadership team.
The departure came one day before the opening of the new Thai League 1 season. It leaves the Shopee Cup champions managing a change at the top as their 2026/27 campaign begins, with continuity an immediate concern.
A spell marked by trophies
ASEAN United credited Jackson with leading Buriram past Selangor for the regional title in May. He also won Thai League 1 and the Thai FA Cup with the club. Before moving to Thailand, the English coach had taken Central Coast Mariners to the AFC Cup title in 2024.
That record provides the backdrop to the handover. Buriram are not starting again after a trophyless campaign, but previous success now sits alongside a change in the coaching structure.
The next regional milestone
The schedule cited by ASEAN United has Buriram opening their Shopee Cup Group A campaign at home to Borneo FC Samarinda on 7 October. They are pursuing a third consecutive title in the competition.
Ahead of that date, the questions to follow are how the club settles its longer-term coaching arrangements and maintains its work under the interim pair. Further personnel announcements from Buriram will clarify how long the transition lasts.
