Malaysia beat Singapore 6–0 in its final FIFA ASEAN Cup Group A match on October 1, with Bergson scoring a hat-trick, but missed the final. Indonesia's 9–2 victory over Bangladesh changed the standings while Malaysia's players awaited the other result.
Both teams finished with seven points and a +9 goal difference. Indonesia topped the group with 11 goals scored, two more than Malaysia. Malaysia will contest third place and awaits Group B's conclusion to learn its opponent; the six-goal win alone was insufficient to secure a final berth.
