Mor Talla Ndiaye's stoppage-time header earned Liverpool U21 a 1–0 Premier League 2 victory over Reading at Kirkby on October 17. Oliver O'Connor supplied the decisive cross.

The winner completed a personal turnaround for Ndiaye, who had conceded a penalty approximately twenty minutes earlier. Bailey Hall saved Torin Ntege's spot kick to keep Liverpool level.

Limited first-half openings

Rob Page started five players who had been on the senior team's Champions League bench against LASK. Nevertheless, neither side created much space during a tight opening half.

Wellity Lucky headed Luke Chambers' corner towards Josh Welland without sufficient power to trouble him. Jayden Danns sent a long-range free kick over, while Emmanuel Osho's dangerous delivery passed through Reading's attacking area without a finish.

Will Wright replaced Danns at the interval in what the club report described as an apparently planned change.

Hall saves before Ndiaye strikes

Hall stopped Luke Howard after the break, and O'Connor blocked Carter Bowdery's effort. Reading then received a penalty in the 73rd minute after Ndiaye was judged to have pushed substitute Ntege. Hall denied the taker low to his right.

O'Connor later headed the ball past the advancing goalkeeper but could not keep his finish below the bar. Hall produced another important save from Ntege's late header.

In added time, a free kick located O'Connor on the right. His cross allowed Ndiaye to rise and direct a downward header into the net. Liverpool's next announced PL2 fixture is away to Chelsea at Kingsmeadow on October 24.
