The AFC has not decided to postpone the 2027 Asian Cup, according to statements reported by Thanh Niên on 15 October. President Salman bin Ibrahim al-Khalifa says the confederation is monitoring regional conditions, while a Vietnam Football Federation official says member associations are awaiting formal information.

Options remain under assessment

Speaking to reporters in Zurich, the AFC president said there was no need to rush a decision and that monitoring could continue until late November. He raised a one-year delay as a possibility if necessary, while saying preparations currently remained on schedule.

A move to 2028 is therefore an option mentioned in discussion, not an announced change. A separate suggestion concerning another host country also lacks a confirmed decision in the report.

The existing programme cited by Thanh Niên runs from 7 January to 5 February 2027 in Riyadh, Jeddah and Khobar, Saudi Arabia. That published schedule should be distinguished from possible future alternatives.

Vietnam awaits an official update

Vietnam are listed in Group E alongside South Korea, the UAE and Yemen. The VFF official says the AFC and participating associations continue to follow developments in the host country.

The same source describes a forthcoming meeting in Tokyo, but says no official decision on the tournament's future had yet been communicated.

The update for Vietnamese supporters is consequently the continuing assessment and the range of options being discussed. It does not establish a 2028 competition date or confirm a replacement host. Further planning will depend on whatever formal decision the AFC subsequently announces.
