Alex Scott has left her role presenting Women's Champions League coverage on Disney+, the Guardian reports. The former England defender is understood to have chosen to focus on other projects, including a women's football programme developed through her own production company.
Independent projects continue
Scott launched One More Word WSL with former England internationals Anita Asante and Fara Williams at the start of the season. First Cap Productions created the show after the BBC cancelled its weekly Women's Super League highlights programme.
Her broadcasting background includes five seasons presenting Football Focus before its closure this year, as well as major BBC sports events. She previously played for Arsenal and England.
Scott's representatives thanked Disney+ for the opportunity and expressed hope that they could work together again. The Guardian describes the decision to leave as hers.
The competition's coverage carries on
Disney secured a five-year exclusive Women's Champions League agreement across European broadcast territories in 2025. Scott had fronted coverage since that rights arrangement began.
The departure follows criticism of production problems during this season's opening round. One unscheduled advertising break interrupted Arsenal's 1-0 victory over HB Køge for more than three minutes. However, the report does not establish that Scott was dismissed over those technical failures.
Disney+ thanked her for her enthusiasm and contribution. Sources cited by the Guardian describe the relationship as positive, with Shebahn Aherne, Nedum Onuoha and Lianne Sanderson expected to remain in the presenting team.
The competition resumes on 28 October, while Scott turns her attention towards her other work.
