A family in Thai Nguyen received 32 million dong in assistance through the La lanh dum la rach charity programme, according to a VTC News report republished by the Vietnam Football Federation on September 9. Contributions collected during August 28-September 3 will help with treatment costs and travel.
The VFF supported the programme by donating a Vietnam national team shirt signed by the players. The shirt was sent to VTC News on August 27 and subsequently presented to the person who made the largest contribution during that week.
The beneficiary is Nguyen Hoang Quy and his family. The report said he and his two children require regular treatment for thalassaemia. Repeated hospital visits and the demands of caring for relatives have placed pressure on the family's income.
Quy expressed gratitude to those who helped. In this initiative, a piece of football memorabilia recognised a donor's support while directing attention to a specific family's needs. The connection with the national team gave supporters another way to turn their interest in football into practical assistance.
