Bayern Munich drew 2-2 with Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker at the Allianz Arena on 31 October. Harry Kane missed a penalty early in the second half, and substitute Fabio Silva equalised for Dortmund on 89 minutes. According to SGGP, both teams now have 18 points, with Bayern ahead on goal difference.

How it unfolded

Dan Tri reports that Jobe Bellingham had a goal ruled out for offside by VAR before Konrad Laimer put Bayern ahead on 38 minutes. Early in the second half Kane won a penalty but could not beat goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. Serhou Guirassy then levelled at 1-1 from a Carney Chukwuemeka pass; SGGP says the move began when Nico Schlotterbeck intercepted a loose Kane pass.

Kane made amends by setting up Dayot Upamecano's header for 2-1, but on 89 minutes Konstantinos Karetsas teed up Silva for the equaliser. Bongda24h adds that Bayern lost Michael Olise, Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry to injuries during the game.

Kane's mixed week

Kane received the 2026 Ballon d'Or in London on 26 October, the first English winner since Michael Owen in 2001 and the first Bayern player in 45 years, SGGP notes. Afterwards he admitted it was probably not his or the team's best performance, adding that the focus now had to shift to the next games. He has 4 goals and 6 assists in 8 Bundesliga games.

Bayern were again without coach Vincent Kompany on the bench. According to SGGP, he collapsed at training on 23 October and left hospital on 28 October but still needs rest. Luis Diaz missed out with a thigh problem and Jonas Urbig deputised for the injured Manuel Neuer.

Kovac's gamble

SGGP, citing Goal, reports that Niko Kovac abandoned his usual back three for a back four, the first time Dortmund had used it in the Bundesliga since a defeat to RB Leipzig in March 2025. Kobel told Kicker the switch was a stroke of genius from his coach. Bongda24h notes that the draw keeps Dortmund unbeaten.

What comes next

Bayern travel to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on 3 November, SGGP reports, with the fitness of Olise and Gnabry uncertain.
