Công An TP.HCM beat Hanoi 3–1 at Bình Dương Stadium on the evening of 5 September, taking three points from the opening round of the 2026/27 LPBank V.League 1 season. VPF's official match record lists Nguyễn Tiến Linh, Nguyễn Thái Quốc Cường and Jason Cummings as the home side's scorers, with Andrew Jung scoring for Hanoi.
Hanoi attack, the home side counter effectively
Thanh Niên reported that Hanoi used both flanks in the opening minutes, but the Công An TP.HCM defence stayed focused. The home side created chances through quick transitions. Tiến Linh put the ball in the net in the 15th minute, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
According to VPF's official record, Tiến Linh opened the scoring in the 27th minute. It was the first valid goal of the match and sent Công An TP.HCM into the interval with a one-goal lead.
Nguyễn Thái Quốc Cường made it 2–0 in the 50th minute. Thanh Niên described the move as beginning after goalkeeper Lê Giang Patrik gathered the ball and the home side moved it forward quickly before Quốc Cường shot from near the penalty area.
Andrew Jung headed Hanoi back into the game in the 65th minute, but the visitors could not find an equaliser. In the 83rd minute, Jason Cummings' shot deflected off Nguyễn Thành Chung and changed direction, leaving goalkeeper Quan Văn Chuẩn unable to react. VPF credits Cummings with the goal that completed the 3–1 result.
Three opening points, not a verdict on the season
VPF recorded an attendance of 5,000 at Bình Dương Stadium and confirmed that VAR was used. Công An TP.HCM therefore opened the season with a win, while Hanoi left the first round without a point.
One opening match cannot determine the title race or the final standings. The narrower conclusion is that Công An TP.HCM converted three attacking moments, while Hanoi's pressure produced only one goal.
