Vietnam plans to mark the 80th anniversary of National Culture Day, together with a Great National Unity Culture Week, in November 2026. The plan was discussed on October 21 at the first meeting of the Central Steering Committee for major national anniversaries for 2026-2030, chaired by Politburo member and Standing Secretariat member Trần Cẩm Tú at the Party Central Committee headquarters in Hanoi, Báo Văn Hóa reported, citing the Vietnam News Agency.
Attendees included Trịnh Văn Quyết, head of the Party's Central Commission for Communication and Education, Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Thị Thanh Trà and Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Lâm Thị Phương Thanh.
Origins and focus
Trần Cẩm Tú said the commemoration should highlight the historical value of the First National Cultural Conference, held on November 24, 1946, and Hồ Chí Minh's thinking on the role of culture, as well as the Party's cultural policy set out in Politburo Resolution 80-NQ/TW. Events should be practical and open to wide public participation.
Noting that little time remains, she asked Hanoi and the culture ministry to finish an overall plan setting out the focus, timing, venues and responsibilities. The meeting also covered a national ceremony for the 950th anniversary of the founding of Quốc Tử Giám (1076-2026), also expected in November, and the 80th anniversary of the National Resistance Day (December 19, 1946).
Ninh Bình and Thanh Hóa set dates
Ninh Bình's plan No. 357/KH-UBND, issued on October 16, ties Vietnam Culture Day (November 24) to Great National Unity Day (November 18) and Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23). The provincial plan notes this is the first year Vietnam Culture Day is held nationwide. Highlights include a Haenyeo Jeju cultural performance planned for October 30 at Phạm Thị Trân Theatre, a special art show on November 14 at Sun Urban City Cultural Park, and the programme "Vietnamese Culture - Converging and Spreading" on the evening of November 24, plus the Tràng An Marathon and other sports events.
Thanh Hóa will spread its events across the province (times are Vietnam time):
