Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg said they were not involved in a new Spaced Blu-ray edition scheduled for February 2027, Variety reported. Wright responded after a fan asked about it, while Pegg told the publication that the creative team had no input.
Creators describe a change from earlier editions
Wright said he had wanted a Blu-ray for years and was disappointed to discover that an edition had proceeded without the makers’ involvement. Pegg contrasted that experience with previous releases, in which he, Jessica Hynes and Wright had participated closely.
Their statements concern creative involvement and approval. Variety said it had requested comment from the release’s associated distributor but had not included a response. The account does not establish a legal ruling on distribution rights.
What the remaster description says
Promotional material describes a new 4K master using traditional and proprietary tools, multiple algorithmic correction stages and additional manual work frame by frame. Variety places the process within the discussion of AI upscaling. The description includes human operation rather than presenting a wholly automatic production.
Created by Pegg and Hynes, Spaced aired on Channel 4 from 1999–2001. Wright directed all 14 episodes, with the comedy becoming known for fast editing and pop culture references. The collaborators later continued into films including Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
The edition comes through All3Media, described by Variety as part of Banijay Entertainment. The next developments are a distributor response and further details before February 2027, which could clarify the process and how the release is presented to viewers.
