EU finance ministers agreed in Luxembourg on October 9 to strengthen ESMA’s supervisory powers, VietnamPlus reports. The proposed framework includes direct oversight of securities trading platforms, clearing organisations and certain crypto-asset businesses, with an exception for Deutsche Börse under the agreement. The final legal text still requires negotiations involving the European Parliament and member states. The enhanced powers therefore do not take effect immediately following the ministers’ meeting.
