Lenny Joseph scored twice in the second half as Ferencváros beat AC Milan 2-0 away in the fourth round of the Europa League. The Hungarian side maintained a perfect record after four matches, while Milan were left on three points.
The match took place on 5 November local time, early on 6 November in Vietnam. SGGP reported that Milan had come into the game after beating city rivals Inter in Serie A, but could not carry that result into Europe.
Two decisive second-half moves
Ferencváros had put the home defence under pressure in the first half, SGGP said. Joseph opened the scoring after an error by reserve goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani, then struck again on a counterattack as Milan sought an equaliser.
Bongda24h said Kristoffer Zachariassen pressed Torriani after a back pass to create the opening for Joseph, and later helped lead the counterattack before setting up his teammate’s second goal.
Milan played against ten men from the 77th minute, when Ferencváros substitute Bamidele Yusuf received a straight red card, but failed to pull a goal back. Coach Ruben Amorim had made six changes from the Inter win and introduced three players after half-time, including Christian Pulisic.
Amorim calls for improvement
Afterwards, Amorim said his team had not been ready to compete simultaneously in Serie A and Europe and needed to improve its approach. He also questioned his own preparation and credited the visitors as the better side technically, tactically and mentally.
SGGP placed Milan 28th with three defeats from four European games, contrasting that run with just one loss in their first ten Serie A matches. For Ferencváros, the result secured a fourth successive league-phase win.
