Phil Foden believes his time out after a Manchester derby red card helped him work on aspects of his game. Bongda24h reports his personal assessment from a press conference held before Manchester City's Champions League meeting with Leipzig.

Reflecting on the interruption

The midfielder said spending almost a month without playing felt unusual. He used the period to focus on areas he wanted to improve and described returning with a clearer mind, more energy and a sharper playing feeling.

Foden also expressed satisfaction with his recent performances and involvement in City's goals. He linked that contribution to confidence, while emphasising the value of regular playing time in finding rhythm.

Understanding familiar teammates was another part of his explanation. Knowing their likely movements and decisions, he said, makes combinations easier. These were his reflections on his own form since returning.

Different roles under a familiar coach

This season is Foden's first in the senior side under a head coach other than Pep Guardiola. The report recalls his debut at 17 and notes that he is approaching 400 City appearances.

Enzo Maresca is nevertheless familiar to him from the Italian's previous work as Guardiola's assistant. Foden sees similarities with that earlier experience, while continuing to play in several positions with different requirements.

He said he adjusts his game to each role and tries to help teammates with their positioning and responsibilities. Continuing that adaptation is his stated work ahead after returning to competitive football.
