Gennaro Gattuso has urged Lazio to preserve their belief and determination after a 2-1 comeback victory over Cagliari put them alone at the top of Serie A. SGGP Thể thao reports that they moved three points clear of Inter following their rivals' Milan derby defeat.

Lazio have won six consecutive league games and remain unbeaten after the opening ten rounds. Gattuso's response nevertheless focused on the effort required to sustain that position.

A difficult match changed from the bench

M'Bala Nzola gave Cagliari the lead from Alieu Fadera's pass. Gustav Isaksen equalised before Andrea Pinamonti headed in the late winner.

SGGP, relaying Gattuso's comments to DAZN Italia, says the coach praised the substitutes' contribution and acknowledged the difficulties Cagliari created. The response to falling behind mattered as much as the eventual outcome.

Current momentum against a longer benchmark

The newspaper identifies the six-match sequence as Lazio's best since February 2021. Their club record remains 11 consecutive victories between October 2019 and January 2020, a separate benchmark from the current run.

Gattuso also recalled the difficult period after an opening-round Coppa Italia defeat in August. He credited the team's continued work and belief rather than allowing that setback to define their direction.

According to SGGP, Lazio's next challenge is away to Napoli. The coach wants a match-by-match approach, with recovery supporting continued effort. That fixture will test whether they can protect their progress; their current position alone does not settle the title race.
