Steven Gerrard says he has no regrets about the decisions he made during his playing career despite interest from Real Madrid, Inter and Bayern Munich. Speaking on Overlap Daily, the former Liverpool captain reflected on historical opportunities rather than announcing a new approach.

Gerrard retired in 2016 after a 19-year career. He made 710 Liverpool appearances and won nine trophies before moving to LA Galaxy in 2015.

Liverpool remained the priority

Gerrard said much of the overseas interest came through José Mourinho. He recalled contacts involving Inter and Real, followed by discussions through his representative concerning Bayern around Bastian Schweinsteiger's departure in 2015.

He was not strongly drawn to those possibilities because he did not intend to leave Liverpool at the time. He also remembered enjoying his football under Brendan Rodgers when one opportunity arose. Interest from major clubs nevertheless felt flattering.

The accounts concern his playing days and do not indicate current negotiations or an appointment.

Alternative paths do not bring regret

Gerrard acknowledged occasionally wondering how life might have unfolded had he moved abroad in his prime. Seeing Jude Bellingham win with Real and Harry Kane succeed at Bayern can prompt that reflection.

He distinguished considering another possible route from regretting the route he chose. His attachment to Liverpool remained central to his explanation.

After retiring, Gerrard entered coaching. The report says he has not taken a new post since leaving Al-Ettifaq in January 2025, while the interview's focus remains his assessment of his earlier playing decisions.
