DAZN has secured an exclusive option for global streaming rights to the 2029 men's Club World Cup, the Guardian reports. The newspaper says the value and the deadline for exercising that option are not known.

The development extends the relationship with FIFA without establishing that every part of a final 2029 broadcasting arrangement has been completed. Venues, format and tournament size also remain undecided.

The previous deal provides context

DAZN paid $1bn for global rights to the 32-team tournament in the United States in 2025. That figure belongs to the previous edition and is not a disclosed price for 2029.

According to the Guardian, Apple TV had withdrawn from talks over valuation, while FIFA's subsequent attempt to sell rights regionally had stalled. DAZN's agreement helped underpin the event's financial structure, with Chelsea eventually winning the title.

Decisions still required

Expansion to 48 teams remains under discussion rather than confirmed. The report also says finer details of a proposed commercial joint venture between FIFA and European club representatives have not been settled.

Morocco and a joint Morocco-Spain event are described as possible hosting arrangements, not awarded venues. For viewers, a global option alone does not specify subscription prices, local distribution or free access in individual markets.

The next substantive steps are whether DAZN exercises the option and how FIFA defines the host, field and format. Those decisions will make the broadcasting proposition for the 2029 competition clearer.
