Harmony Tan won the W50 Cherbourg-en-Cotentin title with a 6-2, 7-6(3) final victory over Katarina Zavatska. Tuoi Tre reports that the 29-year-old French player won all five matches and ten sets during the indoor hard-court tournament.

She is the first two-time champion across the event's 18 editions, having also won in 2018. The report, citing the French tennis federation, identifies this as her 14th professional title.

Five wins, ten sets

Tan beat Zongyu Li 6-1, 6-0 and Lian Tran 6-2, 6-3 before defeating second seed Viktoria Hruncakova 6-0, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. A 6-2, 7-5 win over Mariam Bolkvadze followed.

Zavatska led 4-2 and later 6-5 in the final's second set, but Tan recovered to take the tie-break. Her tournament totals were 62 games won and 25 lost.

The ITF World Tennis Tour event offered $40,000 in prize money and 50 WTA points to its champion.

French player with Vietnamese family roots

Tan was born in Paris and represents France. Tuoi Tre, citing Eurosport, says her mother was born in Vietnam and her Chinese-origin father in Cambodia before they settled in France.

She began tennis at four and attended the Nick Bollettieri academy at eight. She later beat Serena Williams at Wimbledon in 2022 and reached the fourth round.

A former world number 90 whose career has been affected by injuries, Tan now adds the Cherbourg title and its ranking points to her efforts to rebuild form.
