Henry Winkler recalled asking ABC not to rename Happy Days as Fonzie's Happy Days, Variety reported from his appearance on In Depth With Graham Bensinger.
Although Fonzie became a breakout character, Winkler felt a title change could hurt his co-stars and disrupt the ensemble. He also declined a proposed spinoff centred on the character.
The actor cited his chemistry with the cast as a reason to stay. His account emphasised the collective contribution behind the sitcom's success.
