Real Madrid edged Villarreal 1-0 in La Liga's eighth round through Yan Diomandé, BongdaPlus reported on 11 October. Federico Valverde supplied the pass for the winner, which stood after a VAR review. Substitute Vinícius later received a red card for pulling an opponent's hair, with a goal in the same sequence disallowed. Madrid protected their lead with ten players; any subsequent disciplinary penalty for Vinícius remained undetermined.
