Meta and Lionsgate have partnered to convert The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping into 3D ahead of its November 20 release, Variety reported. The work involves DNEG and marks Meta’s first collaboration with a studio on this kind of conversion.

Two stages of viewing

DNEG has previously worked on 2D to 3D conversions including Dune: Part One, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Venom. The process described for Sunrise on the Reaping is a format conversion rather than an announcement that the entire film was natively photographed in 3D.

The resulting version is also planned for Meta’s new virtual reality glasses when they launch in spring 2027. Lionsgate revenue chief Jim Packer framed the partnership as a way to create new experiences from existing formats. Meta presented the project as connecting cinema viewing with a later home experience.

The glasses were introduced at Meta Connect in September alongside plans for other immersive or 3D films. Those content announcements do not establish availability in every market.

A younger Haymitch

Francis Lawrence directs, with Joseph Zada playing the younger Haymitch Abernathy, previously portrayed by Woody Harrelson. The fictional story follows him through the fiftieth Hunger Games.

Lawrence said the adaptation offered another way to place audiences within Haymitch’s journey. That describes the creative intention before viewers experience the release.

Next comes the reported November 20 film launch, followed by the planned glasses version in spring 2027. The theatrical and device stages have separate schedules, and the report did not specify Vietnamese cinema dates or local hardware sales.
