U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on September 23 that the United States and China had agreed to extend their Busan trade truce by two months. He said the arrangement, previously due to expire on November 10, 2026, will now run until January 10, 2027, giving the sides more time to assess possible economic steps.

Bessent said it remains unclear whether the countries can reach a broader trade agreement before the new deadline. Washington is also pressing Beijing to fulfil more of its existing commitments. The extension continues the current framework, while the outcome of further talks remains uncertain.
