VietnamPlus, citing China's foreign ministry, reported an eight-point understanding between China and the United States that includes a bilateral tariff-reduction arrangement valued at about US$30 billion and a dialogue mechanism on artificial intelligence. Its September 26 report also said the two countries extended their trade truce by two months while working toward a broader trade agreement.

On AI, the report described another round of talks planned for November and an incident-communication channel; the White House confirmed a bilateral channel on the subject. Announcements of an understanding and planned talks do not by themselves establish when each tariff change takes effect or that a comprehensive trade agreement is complete.
