Pedro Neto scored twice as Chelsea beat Everton 2–0 at Hill Dickinson Stadium on October 17. The club's report described a competitive first half before goals at the beginning and end of the second period.
Chelsea also recorded their first Premier League clean sheet since January, although goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was forced off following a collision.
Chances before the breakthrough
Jorrel Hato replaced Pep Chavarria on the left of defence after Chavarria sustained a training problem. Cole Palmer tested Jordan Pickford from distance, while Jordan Henderson had a shot blocked.
Everton threatened through Merlin Rohl and Jack Grealish. Chelsea then came close when Moises Caicedo volleyed Henderson's corner against the crossbar. Harrison Armstrong also cleared Maxence Lacroix's header off the line.
Neto settles the contest
Only 43 seconds after the restart, Morgan Rogers' backheel released Hato down the left. His delivery reached Neto, who set himself and finished past Pickford.
Martinez later collided with Everton players while clearing a free kick. After lengthy treatment, Mike Penders replaced him in the seventieth minute and helped preserve the lead.
Pickford denied Joao Pedro during a Chelsea counterattack, but Neto secured the result in the ninetieth minute. Henderson's free kick struck the wall, and Neto collected the loose ball before finding space to finish.
Chelsea negotiated eleven added minutes to complete the victory and moved above Everton in the table at the time of reporting. Tottenham visit on October 24, while Martinez's condition awaits separate medical updates.
