Arsenal Women drew 1–1 with Birmingham City at Emirates Stadium, with Olivia Smith's long-range equaliser cancelling out Oceane Hurtre's opener. The club's October 17 report described numerous home chances without a winning goal.
The hosts threatened through both wide combinations and shots from outside the penalty area. Birmingham resisted that pressure before finding an opening on the counterattack.
Chances before the interval
Arsenal began positively, with Alessia Russo having a shot deflected wide. Smith and Lisa Baum threatened from the wings, but Birmingham maintained their clean sheet during the opening half.
Smith created an opportunity for Stina Blackstenius, and Kyra Cooney-Cross tested Sophie Baggaley from distance. Russo then met Leah Williamson's cross with a diving header that struck the post.
Smilla Holmberg also shot over after the restart before Birmingham exploited a counterattack.
Hurtre leads, Smith responds
Hurtre broke forward, drew Misa Rodriguez out and finished to put the visitors ahead. Baggaley subsequently denied Baum's close-range header from Ona Batlle's cross.
Smith equalised with a strike from approximately twenty yards into the top corner. Arsenal kept seeking a winner, but Lotte Wubben-Moy was denied after meeting Holmberg's free kick.
Birmingham left with a point after Hurtre's composed finish and several important Baggaley saves. Smith rescued Arsenal from defeat, but the woodwork and the visiting goalkeeper prevented their other chances from producing a second goal. The club identifies Tottenham as Arsenal's next WSL opponent.
