The next Mummy film starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz is officially titled The Mummy: The Book of the Dead. Variety reported on October 15 that Universal plans a theatrical release on October 15, 2027, while plot details remain undisclosed.
Rick and Evie return
Fraser reprises Rick O'Connell and Weisz returns as Evie. The reported cast also includes John Hannah, Michael Johnston, Numan Acar, Kevin J. O'Connor and Oded Fehr.
The title does not itself establish the new story's events or antagonist. Those details have not been revealed in the announcement.
Fraser and Weisz first appeared together in the 1999 film, in which a treasure-hunting adventure awakens a cursed Egyptian priest. It was followed by The Mummy Returns in 2001 and Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008. Fraser starred in both sequels, while Weisz did not appear in the third instalment.
Radio Silence directs the sequel
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known collectively as Radio Silence, are directing from a screenplay by David Coggeshall. The directors' previous work includes Ready or Not and the revived Scream series; Coggeshall's credits include The Family Plan and Orphan: First Kill.
Sean Daniel is producing alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and Clayton Townsend. Fraser and Hivemind's Jason F. Brown are executive producers.
The broader franchise has also included The Scorpion King and the separate 2017 reboot starring Tom Cruise. The newly named film returns attention to Rick and Evie, with its announced 2027 release still ahead.
