The makers of Viên đạn cuối cùng (literally The Last Bullet), director Đinh Tuấn Vũ's film inspired by shooter Hoàng Xuân Vinh's Olympic gold at Rio 2016, have released a first-look poster and a cast drawn from Vietnam and South Korea, Tuoi Tre reported. The film is planned for release over the New Year 2027 holiday. Alongside Nhan Phúc Vinh, who was shown how to shoot by Hoàng Xuân Vinh himself, the cast includes three well-known Korean actors, among them Lee Jung Eun of the hit series Doctor X.

The Korean cast

Veteran actor Lee Kyung Young plays coach Park Chung Gun, while Jung Il Woo plays shooter Jin Jong Oh, one of Hoàng Xuân Vinh's main rivals. Lee Jung Eun plays coach Park's wife.

Born in 1972, Lee Jung Eun was named best supporting actress at the Baeksang awards for The Light In Your Eyes. In Doctor X she plays manager Jang Hee Sook, a steely agent who negotiates tough contracts to protect Su Jeong (Kim Ji Won) and keep her out of the power struggle.

The story behind the gold

At Rio 2016, Hoàng Xuân Vinh took on seasoned shooters from the world's leading sporting nations and won Vietnam's first Olympic gold medal, which remains its only one. Ten years on, the story behind that moment is reaching the big screen for the first time, and Tuoi Tre said the film sets out to show the pressure, setbacks and hidden struggles behind the glory.

A key thread follows coach Park Chung Gun and the Vietnamese shooters, from early clashes rooted in language and cultural differences to the trust they gradually build towards a shared goal. The poster shows a shooter in a moment of intense focus, the pressure seemingly concentrated in the hand holding the gun.

Director Đinh Tuấn Vũ said the two-country cast, working with Vietnamese and Korean technical advisers, helps recreate top-level shooting contests in which precision, mental control and competitive nerve come first.

What it means for Vietnamese audiences

For Vietnamese viewers, this is the first time the country's only Olympic gold has been dramatised for cinemas, including the pressure and failures as well as the winning moment. The crew said the bilateral cast helps recreate an international competition setting and opens up intertwined relationships between characters. The Korean names are a draw of their own: Tuoi Tre noted that Jung Il Woo is already a familiar face to Korean drama fans, while Lee Jung Eun is currently appearing in a buzzy series.

What comes next

Viên đạn cuối cùng is slated for the New Year 2027 holiday. So far the crew has released only the first-look poster and the cast, without a specific opening date.
