Real Madrid beat Racing Santander 3-0 at El Sardinero on 1 November in round 11 of La Liga. Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 11 minutes, and Jude Bellingham and Yan Diomande added goals before half-time. According to the Guardian, it was a sixth straight win in all competitions for Jose Mourinho's side.

Two refereeing flashpoints

On 10 minutes Mbappe went down in the box after Matteo Prati put an arm across him. Referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero pointed to the spot and VAR did not intervene. Radio MARCA's refereeing analyst Pablo Gonzalez Fuertes said the contact was not enough for a penalty, VnExpress and Bongdaplus report.

Bongdaplus adds that on 75 minutes Racing were awarded a penalty for handball by Aurelien Tchouameni, but the referee reversed it after a VAR review because the ball had struck the midfielder's body first. Mourinho backed that call, saying it was not a penalty and praising the referee, and called the result a good win in an important week.

Goals and numbers

On 21 minutes Arda Guler slipped Bellingham through to round goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala. Bongdaplus says it was the Englishman's 50th goal for the club; VnExpress notes it was his first La Liga goal since September. On 36 minutes Diomande, starting while Vinicius Junior serves a suspension, volleyed in from the edge of the box after a Guler corner.
