Rui Pinto is no longer covered by witness protection in Portugal following a September 30 decision, according to documents The Guardian said it had examined. The Football Leaks founder supplied documents that helped prompt the investigation into Manchester City’s finances.
Pinto had been protected since 2020 after agreeing to give authorities access to a large collection of files. The report establishes a change in his protection status; it does not mean the City case has ended or establish that he has suffered a new harmful incident.
