Antoine Semenyo is expected to need around eight weeks to recover from an injury sustained late in Manchester City's 3-2 win over Ipswich Town on October 17, Bóngđá+ reported, citing the club's update. The Ghana forward underwent scans on Sunday.
The results were more encouraging than City's initial concerns, but the projected absence still removes an attacking option during an increasingly busy schedule.
Recovery timetable remains an estimate
Coach Maresca said the club had feared a more serious problem before receiving the scan results. He nevertheless indicated that Semenyo could be out for eight weeks, with recovery now the priority.
A possible December return is therefore a target rather than a guaranteed date. His progress over the coming weeks will determine when he is ready to play again.
The 26-year-old provides pace, dribbling and versatility. Those qualities have contributed to City's positive league start and given the staff flexibility across the attack.
Central attacking option temporarily lost
Maresca said City had considered using Semenyo as a number nine when Erling Haaland needed a rest. The injury means the coaches must look to other available solutions during his absence.
Haaland is also being monitored after experiencing discomfort in the Ipswich game, in which he scored twice. Maresca said the Norwegian could return for the Champions League match at home to AEK Athens, subject to his condition.
City therefore face two different fitness situations: a longer recovery period for Semenyo and assessment of Haaland ahead of the next game. Decisions on the forward line will depend on those developments and the options available.
