Sun PhuQuoc Airways has started daily direct service between Ho Chi Minh City and Shanghai. Its first 9G634 flight left Ho Chi Minh City at 23:40 on October 15 and landed at Shanghai Pudong at 04:40 the following morning, VnExpress reported.
Return flight 9G635 departed Shanghai at 05:40 and reached Tan Son Nhat at 09:05. The published times refer to the local time at each airport.
Expanding the operating China network
The route connects Ho Chi Minh City with a major Chinese financial and commercial centre. It follows the airline's services from Phu Quoc and Ho Chi Minh City to Chengdu, introduced in July and August respectively.
The carrier said its website and application had been adapted for Chinese passengers, including WeChat Pay, Alipay and UnionPay. Customers can use those platforms for bookings, payments and online check-in.
An Explore Shanghai promotion accompanies the launch. Advertised fares are subject to booking windows, travel dates and programme conditions rather than representing a fixed price for every journey.
Further routes remain prospective
The airline plans additional Shanghai links from Hanoi and Phu Quoc and is studying connections to Shenzhen, Beijing and Chongqing. These proposals are separate from the Ho Chi Minh City–Shanghai service already operating.
The report also said the carrier's first A330, registration VN-A969, joined the fleet on September 22 and began commercial operations in early October. A February order for 40 Boeing 787-9 aircraft supports longer-term plans. Targets of 33 aircraft by end-2026 and 100 by 2030 remain future fleet objectives.
