Vietjet has opened a direct route between Hanoi and Tainan, Taiwan (China), VietnamPlus reported. The first flight, VJ1942 from Hanoi, touched down in Tainan on the morning of 25 October 2026 and was welcomed with a water-cannon salute on the apron. The return service, VJ1943, left Tainan for Hanoi the same day, formally putting the route into operation.
The service runs four round trips a week, and the flight takes roughly two to three hours. Vietjet is currently the only Vietnamese airline operating scheduled flights to Tainan.
What it means for travellers
For passengers starting in Hanoi, the route is a nonstop link to a city often likened to the historical and cultural heart of Taiwan, VietnamPlus wrote. Visitors can explore temples that are hundreds of years old, Anping Fort, the old Shennong Street, which comes alive at night, and a celebrated street-food scene. According to VietnamPlus, the direct service opens up opportunities for family visits, tourism, trade and cultural exchange.
Traffic is meant to flow both ways. Travellers boarding in Tainan can connect through Vietjet's network to destinations across Vietnam, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, Australia and Europe.
Vietjet chief executive Nguyễn Thanh Sơn said each new route does more than join two points on a map: it creates new opportunities for people, businesses and communities. The airline hopes the Hanoi-Tainan link becomes a lasting bridge for tourism, economic exchange and community ties.
