Tran Thi Thanh Thuy scored fourteen points in Gunma Green Wings' opening match of Japan's 2026/27 women's volleyball season, but her team lost 3–2 to Rivale Astemo on October 17.

Tuoi Tre reported set scores of 21–25, 26–24, 25–23, 21–25 and 13–15 from Gunma's perspective. The team led two sets to one before losing the final two.

Contributions across three skills

Thanh Thuy's total comprised eleven attacking points, two blocks and one service point. It reflected scoring contributions beyond attacking alone.

Gunma were without Polish player Olivia Rozanski, increasing the scoring responsibility on other options. Thanh Thuy is playing a second consecutive season for the club.

Alina Popova led Gunma with nineteen points. Shima Mikoto matched Thanh Thuy's fourteen, made up of thirteen attacking points and one block.

Roles behind the totals

Popova operated as an opposite, with fewer reception responsibilities and greater emphasis on attacking. Comparing raw scoring totals therefore also requires attention to the different jobs performed on court.

Thanh Thuy recorded fewer attacking points than Shima but added production through blocking and serving. Those individual contributions nevertheless did not prevent Gunma's narrow defeat in the deciding set.

The teams are scheduled to meet again on October 18. That fixture offers Gunma another opportunity to seek a win, rather than representing a comeback victory already achieved. The completed opening-match record remains fourteen points for Thanh Thuy and a five-set loss for her team.
