The Oklahoma City Thunder will retire Russell Westbrook’s No. 0 jersey on 7 February 2027 when they host the New York Knicks at Paycom Center. The official release published by NBA.com on 2 November said it would be the second number retired by the team.
Eleven seasons at the centre of the franchise
Westbrook spent 11 of his 18 NBA seasons with the franchise. His retirement was announced in August, so the new development concerns the jersey ceremony rather than a fresh decision to end his playing career.
The release lists his Oklahoma City records including 821 games, 18,859 points, 5,760 rebounds and 6,897 assists. These are team totals, distinct from his full career across multiple clubs.
During his 11 seasons, the Thunder made nine playoff appearances, four Western Conference finals and the 2012 NBA Finals. Chairman Clayton I. Bennett and general manager Sam Presti also emphasised his community contribution.
The MVP season and the ceremony ahead
Westbrook won the 2016–17 MVP award with averages of 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists. He became the second player to average a triple-double for a full season and recorded 42 triple-doubles in that campaign.
He joined the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team in 2021. Eight of his nine All-NBA selections and eight of his nine All-Star appearances came during his Oklahoma City tenure.
Those achievements explain the planned honour; the jersey has not yet been raised. The Thunder said further details would be announced later. Those arrangements are the next step before the Knicks game on 7 February 2027.
