Da Nang has established a municipal Sports Training and Competition Centre by merging two existing institutions. Van Hoa reported that it will begin operating on November 1, 2026, with the handover required before October 31.
Bringing training responsibilities together
The merger combines the city's sports centre with its athlete training and development centre. The new body is a public institution under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Its functions cover athlete selection, specialist development and coaching, together with training sessions, demonstrations and competitions. It will also support sport-for-all activities and provide assigned public services.
The municipal department manages its work directly, while the national sports administration provides professional guidance through the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Maintaining services through the transition
The city instructed the relevant units to transfer personnel, assets, finances, documents and outstanding responsibilities. Professional activities and administrative procedures are to continue without interruption.
During the transition, the new centre inherits the tasks of its predecessors while the competent authorities complete the governing arrangements. November 1 is the specified operating date, rather than evidence that every transfer has already finished.
Its structure includes a director, deputy directors and six functional or specialist departments. The director is accountable to the municipal department head and under the law for its activities.
The centre can organise or co-organise domestic and international events after approval. Its responsibilities also include sports science, technology, medicine and research supporting athlete development. Partnerships to use facilities and provide services remain subject to applicable regulations and the institution's management framework.
