Indonesia beat Australia 2–0 in Vientiane on 6 September to qualify for the AFC U20 Asian Cup China 2027. AFC confirmed that the result took the Southeast Asian side to seven points and secured Group H’s automatic qualifying place.

A result that settled qualification

The outcome matters on two levels: Indonesia won their final match against Australia and completed their overall qualifying objective. Seven points represents their group total, not the points earned from this single game.

AFC described qualification as Indonesia’s third consecutive appearance at the finals. For youth football in the region, maintaining a presence in the continental tournament is a different milestone from winning an individual match.

In the other Group H result reported by AFC, Malaysia beat Laos 2–1 and finished second on five points. Indonesia therefore ended above Malaysia, with their direct route to the finals secured.

Moving from qualification to preparation

Indonesia’s focus now shifts from obtaining a place to preparing for the tournament in China in 2027. The eventual squad and training programme are among the details to follow in subsequent announcements.

The 6 September result keeps Indonesia among the youth teams competing at Asian level. It does not predetermine their performance at the finals, where a new tournament campaign awaits.
