Manchester United U21 lost 3–2 to Nottingham Forest at Loughborough University Stadium on Friday evening. The Premier League 2 report, published on October 17 in Vietnam, describes a United comeback that Forest subsequently overturned.
Dan Armer's penalty and Samuel Lusale's strike had put the visitors 2–1 ahead before Fuad Ayorinde Smith equalised and Shakur Samuels scored the winner.
Armer restores parity
Adam Lawrence made five changes from United's previous PL2 fixture. Early free kicks from Jim Thwaites went wide, and Enzo Kana Biyik headed into the side-netting.
Forest led after 21 minutes when Smith converted a rebound following Cameron Byrne-Hughes' save from a corner. United struggled to create clear openings until Lusale was fouled by Kristian Clarke near the byline.
Armer drove the resulting penalty down the middle in first-half added time.
Forest overturn United's lead
Lusale scored in the 56th minute after Amir Ibragimov won possession and Jaume Camacho Sidos supplied the pass. He advanced, shifted onto his right foot and finished into the bottom corner.
Forest then received a penalty after Thwaites was judged to have fouled Samuels. Smith's first attempt had to be retaken because he struck before the whistle, but he converted the valid second kick.
Smith became provider in the 79th minute, sending Samuels through for a powerful finish that Byrne-Hughes could not keep out.
United sought another equaliser, including a late Thwaites free kick that curled wide. Forest retained all three points in a match separate from the clubs' U18 meeting the following day.
