How VAR initially allowed Haaland’s goal before Pro Ref acknowledged an error
The analysis records VAR’s initial rationale for allowing Erling Haaland’s goal in the Manchester derby on Sept. 13: semi-automated technology judged Haaland onside because of Patrick Dorgu’s foot position, while Enzo Fernandez did not touch the ball.
VAR then did not regard Fernandez’s attempted header as sufficient interference to disallow the goal. After the match, Pro Ref said VAR had failed to assess the likely impact of Fernandez’s offside position and should have recommended an on-field review.
