VFF Sets No Fixed Limit on Naturalized National-Team Players
VFF does not set a fixed limit on naturalized players selected for Vietnam's national team, vice-president Tran Anh Tu said. Speaking to the media on September 10, he said selection belongs to the head coach and should depend on suitability for the squad, VnExpress reported.
Tu described the available pool as including domestically trained players, overseas Vietnamese players and naturalized footballers. A wider pool does not mean every eligible candidate will be called up or fielded together.
The full squad is expected to assemble on September 21 for the FIFA ASEAN Cup. Club commitments and several injuries leave the coaching staff with a short preparation period and personnel decisions to resolve.
VFF says it will coordinate with clubs and medical staff before finalizing arrangements. The absence of a federation-imposed selection quota does not remove the need for each player to meet eligibility requirements.
