Ten athletes in an 18-member delegation

Vietnam is targeting medals at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal, with particular hopes in swimming, beach wrestling and wushu. The delegation has 18 members, including ten athletes, rather than 18 competitors.

The beach wrestlers are Phạm Văn Dương, Lò Thị Hồng and Hà Lý Quý Bảo. Nguyễn Khắc Lê Hoàng competes in wushu, while Dương Văn Hoàng Quy and Nguyễn Thúy Hiền represent swimming. The remaining athletes are taekwondo's Nguyễn Trương Nhật Huy, cyclist Nguyễn Khang Hà My, badminton player Nguyễn Thị Thu Huyền and athlete Đồng Thị Hường.

The group is scheduled to leave for Senegal on October 26. The Games run from October 31 to November 13 and are the first Youth Olympics hosted by an African country.

Preparation and medal ambitions

The three beach wrestlers gained experience at the 2026 youth world championship in Uzbekistan in August. Lê Hoàng previously won gold at the 2026 world junior taijiquan championship and is preparing for wushu's first Youth Olympic appearance.

Coaches see potential in the two swimmers but acknowledge strong international competition. Preparations have addressed technical work, psychology, weather and the time difference. The report lists 153 events in 25 official sports at the Games.

Vietnam won two gold medals and a bronze in 2018, following gold-medal successes in 2010 and 2014. Those are historical results. The Dakar medal target remains an objective whose outcome will depend on actual performances and event draws.
