Hanoi meeting on investment and finance
Vietnamese Deputy Finance Minister Lê Tấn Cận met Gujarat minister Kanubhai Mohanlal Desai at the finance ministry in Hanoi on October 20. The discussion covered economic, trade and investment cooperation with India and Gujarat, attended by India's ambassador and representatives of the state's authorities and businesses.
Figures shared at the meeting put India's active investment projects in Vietnam at 539 as of September 2026, with approximately $1.17 billion in registered capital across 20 provinces and cities. Vietnam had 37 projects in India with more than $500 million in realised investment. Registered and realised capital are different measures and should not be combined as equivalent flows.
The Vietnamese side also outlined its growth objectives and the nine-month economic context. These were background figures, not new investment contracts signed during the meeting.
GIFT City and a future invitation
Desai introduced Gujarat's investment-promotion initiatives and GIFT City, covering financial services, securities and asset leasing such as aircraft and ships. He also described the state's renewable-energy ambitions through 2030; those ambitions are targets rather than newly operating capacity.
Gujarat delivered an invitation for Vietnam's finance ministry leadership to attend the January 2027 Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit as an official partner country and to explore GIFT City cooperation.
Cận said he would report the invitation for consideration and delegation arrangements. That response does not establish confirmed attendance or a completed investment agreement. The immediate result is a discussion of opportunities and an invitation requiring further arrangements.
