VFF and JFA have reached a preliminary agreement for Vietnam to face Japan in Osaka on 30 December ahead of the 2027 Asian Cup, VnExpress reported on 11 October. Details remain under discussion. Vietnam plan to assemble in Hanoi on 21 December and would train in Japan if the friendly is confirmed, before travelling to West Asia. VFF are also discussing a closed-door match against Qatar on 5 January.
