Kristaps Porziņģis remains out indefinitely following meetings with Golden State Warriors leadership and medical staff. AP's report, published by the NBA, says a health-related issue has kept him away from training camp and preseason games.
The team awaits an appropriate update
Porziņģis visited Chase Center to meet general manager Mike Dunleavy and player-health executive Dr Rick Celebrini. He can now be around teammates in some capacity, but that does not confirm a return to practice or competition.
The Warriors say information about possible training resumption, playing status and a timeline will be supplied when available and appropriate. No return date is currently established.
In a public message, Porziņģis says he is working with doctors and specialists, improving and trying to remain patient. That is the player's account of progress, not disclosure of a specific diagnosis.
The opening game remains uncertain
At media day the previous month, Dunleavy had not ruled him out of the 21 October opener against the Lakers. The subsequent indefinite-absence update leaves participation requiring further confirmation.
Porziņģis joined Golden State from Atlanta at the February trade deadline. Last season he played 32 games across the two teams, averaging 16.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 blocks.
His Warriors spell included 15 appearances and 11 starts. Those figures describe the previous season's workload rather than predict this year's availability.
The current information therefore centres on continued medical assessment and future team updates, without establishing a disease or guaranteeing a comeback date.
