Victor Wembanyama was selected as both fantasy player and defensive player of the week by writers Steve Inman and Jed Katz in NBA.com's week-three fantasy basketball column. Their selections are for a fantasy game audience, not the NBA's official Player of the Week award.
In the seven-day sample discussed in the November 6 article, the San Antonio Spurs centre averaged 35.7 points, 14 rebounds and 5.7 blocks. The writers highlighted his game against Dallas, in which he had 52 points, 24 rebounds and eight blocks.
Other fantasy selections
Detroit's Duncan Robinson was the writers' pickup of the week. The column recorded averages of 22.7 points and 2.3 steals over the period. It said he was rostered in 57% of fantasy leagues at publication, a share that can change as managers adjust their teams.
Sacramento's Darius Acuff Jr. was the fantasy rookie selection. In his previous three games in the article's sample, he averaged 28.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 7.7 assists while shooting 42.4% from three. The writers cited his October 31 game against Memphis, when he had 38 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Why Wembanyama appeared twice
Along with his scoring and rebounding, the column credited Wembanyama with four steals and 17 blocks across the preceding three games in its sample. Those defensive numbers contributed to the writers selecting him in both the overall and defensive fantasy categories.
Klay Thompson was named the most-added fantasy player of the week; the writers noted his 30 points against the Clippers on November 4. The choices reflect the authors' assessment for the game at that time, and player statistics and fantasy rosters can change.
