Will Wright scored a hat-trick and supplied an assist as Liverpool U19s recovered from two goals down to beat LASK 4-2 in the UEFA Youth League. Liverpool's official report describes a decisive captain's performance for Rob Page's side. This youth result is separate from the senior team's 6-3 Champions League victory against LASK.
Liverpool recover after falling two behind
Paul Krapf opened the scoring following a long throw and a ball across the goal area. Bailey Hall made saves that limited the damage before halftime, but Jonas Ilk headed in a corner early in the second half to make it 2-0.
LASK then hit the crossbar through Luca Ortner. Wright reduced the deficit in the 57th minute after being released behind the defence and headed the equaliser from a left-sided cross on the hour.
Wright contributes to both late goals
In the 84th minute, Erik Farkas sent Wright through. After rounding the goalkeeper and being pushed wide, he squared for Luca Eden to put Liverpool ahead. A foul on AJ Yeguo subsequently brought a penalty, which Wright converted in the 88th minute to complete his treble.
His contribution therefore included the pass that transformed a level score into a lead, not just the three goals. The victory does not determine the final league-phase standings.
Liverpool next host Villarreal at the Kirkby Academy on 20 October. The club lists a 15:00 BST kickoff, equivalent to 21:00 in Vietnam. That schedule belongs to the U19 side and should not be confused with the senior team's programme.
