Akari Sparks will represent the Philippines at the 2026 Women's Basketball League Asia, according to FIBA's team profile.
The club entered professional competition in 2025 as Discovery-Rizal Perlas before adopting the Akari Sparks name in 2026.
Domestic title opens the door
Coached by Derrick Pumaren, Akari finished the WMPBL elimination phase with a 9-1 record and advanced directly to the semi-finals.
They swept RK Hoops-Quezon City before beating Batangas-New Zealand Blufire in a three-game final.
A 73-59 victory in the deciding match secured their first WMPBL championship and a place at WBL Asia.
That domestic achievement provides the foundation for the continental debut rather than evidence of a result already achieved in Asia.
Experience in the featured squad
Allana Lim earned Finals MVP honours after averaging 17 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in the title series.
FIBA also highlights Stef Berberabe, Jhazmin Joson, Kent Pastrana and Camille Clarin, players with experience in Philippine women's basketball programmes.
Berberabe recorded a quadruple-double in the 2025 WMPBL season.
Saicha Grant-Allen and Bre'Amber Scott are presented as reinforcements expected to add experience. Their actual contribution remains to be established in competition.
The profile places the team within Akari's wider involvement in sport, including earlier investment in professional volleyball.
WBL Asia now gives the Sparks an opportunity to measure their domestic championship group against new continental opponents. The established record is their Philippine title; the next stage will be determined on court.
