No postponement of the 2027 Asian Cup has been formally announced as participating associations monitor security conditions in the Middle East. Thanh Niên, citing Japan's Sports Nippon Shimbun, reports that keeping the Saudi Arabian schedule or delaying the tournament by one year are under consideration.
The Japanese report identifies 25 November in Bangkok as an assessment point, citing a Japan Football Association official. That date is a media-sourced account rather than a confirmed AFC postponement announcement.
Possible scenarios remain conditional
According to the report, moving the tournament to another host is not considered practical because of limited preparation time. A delay to January or February 2028 in Saudi Arabia is described as a possible alternative if conditions do not improve.
AFC president Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa said on 14 October that the confederation was not rushing a decision and could wait until late November. He also said preparations remained on schedule at that point.
Discussion of alternatives therefore does not establish that the event has already been moved.
Preparatory fixtures could be affected
Japan plan to face Vietnam in late December, while Vietnam also have a proposed match against Qatar on 5 January. The article says those arrangements could be affected by a tournament delay, without confirming their cancellation.
The existing schedule runs from 7 January to 5 February 2027 in Riyadh, Jeddah and Khobar. Vietnam are in Group E of the 24-team competition. Teams continue to await formal clarification before treating any revised dates as settled.
