Testing the squad's depth

Leticia McKenna scored twice on her first national-team start, rather than her international debut. The Nottingham Forest midfielder and club teammate Alana Murphy contributed alongside Clare Wheeler in midfield. Montemurro said friendly windows allow him to examine personnel and different ways of playing. Germany and Haiti required different approaches. Haiti applied pressure in the first ten minutes, after which he wanted Australia to control their emotions, play their football and remain professional. His emphasis was on gradual development and understanding different match situations.

Different routes towards Brazil

McKenna watched the 2023 World Cup as a spectator and described that experience as motivation to become involved. Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln, 21, also received a late opportunity against Haiti and spoke about her ambition to reach the final squad. Neither player's selection for Brazil is settled by this friendly. Haiti still face Mexico on 28 November in a Concacaf W Championship quarter-final. FIFA says the winner qualifies for the World Cup, while the loser pursues a place through the play-off tournament. The Chambly result therefore adds preparation for an already-qualified Australia without deciding Haiti's future or the final composition of Montemurro's squad.
