Bronze in the regional qualification system
Vietnam's women's handball team returned home on October 20 after winning bronze at the 2026 Asian Zone 1A championship in Hong Kong. The event forms part of the qualification system for the Asian championship, so the medal is a Zone 1A result rather than a bronze at the continent's final championship.
Six teams were divided into two groups. Vietnam was placed with Mongolia and Chinese Taipei in Group B. The main report listed Hong Kong, Macau and South Korea in Group A.
Vietnam progressed from the group phase before losing a close semifinal to Hong Kong, 21-23. The team then defeated Chinese Taipei 25-20 in the bronze-medal match, a five-goal victory that secured third place.
Individual contribution and subsequent schedule
Nguyễn Thị Ánh Tuyết scored 25 goals across the tournament and was listed among its three leading scorers. That total covers the event as a whole, rather than only the match against Chinese Taipei.
The Hong Kong medal is Vietnam's latest reported international handball result following participation in the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. It does not by itself establish qualification for another stage.
A separate Zone 1B competition is scheduled in Thailand from October 27 to 31. The completed Vietnamese results and Ánh Tuyết's scoring achievement can be distinguished from that future calendar and from any qualification decisions not confirmed in the report.
