On the afternoon of September 24, Cái Cui Port in Cần Thơ welcomed the first vessel on a direct river-sea container route from Nanning, China, via the Bình Lục Canal, VietnamPlus reported. The route adds a freight link between southwestern China and the Mekong Delta.
The operating plan calls for two sailings a month, a journey of about seven days and capacity of up to around 500 TEU per vessel. These are planned figures, not cargo volumes already achieved. A trial voyage on August 4 was a separate earlier event.
