Chuks Aneke is applying the lessons of his playing career to mentoring young footballers. Speaking to Arsenal, the retired 33-year-old discussed scouting, his property company and helping players understand financial decisions when significant contracts arrive.
A career beyond the first appearance
Aneke joined Arsenal aged eight, signed professional terms in 2010 and made his senior debut against Shrewsbury in the League Cup in 2011. Training alongside players including Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie required him to raise his standards.
That debut was a milestone rather than a guarantee of a lasting career. He went on to play more than 350 professional matches in England and approximately 50 during two years in Belgium. He identified MK Dons and Charlton as particularly strong periods for his performances.
Aneke said lower-league dressing rooms taught him self-reliance and the importance of individual results. His final competitive professional appearance came for Shrewsbury against Bristol Rovers on January 1, 2026.
Returning as a mentor
As injuries limited his playing, Michael Appleton offered him a scouting opportunity at Shrewsbury. Aneke has also established a property business and wants young players to feel comfortable budgeting, rather than feeling different for doing so.
His mother is a mathematics teacher, and education remains a principle he stresses to his son and younger athletes. His comments describe personal experience and mentoring aims, without presenting a specific investment product.
Recent visits to Hale End reconnect him with the academy that helped shape him. Continuing that mentoring work is his next way of contributing to football after retirement.
